Dr. Nancy Cappello's Story
I did what the medical field and the countless number of cancer advocacy groups told me. I ate healthy, exercised daily, had yearly mammograms AND had no first-degree relative with breast cancer. Little did I know...

-

Jean pursued an added ultrasound screening because of MY dense breasts; even with a prescription, the radiology group tried to convince me that I didn't need it as the 3D mammogram was fine.
A 1.9 cm mass in my left breast, seen on ultrasound technology, was invisible by 3D mammography. I was lucky that I did not take NO for an answer. Ladies - Even if your 3D mammogram is normal, get an ultrasound if you have dense breasts.
-

Tami was persistent and went for a second ultrasound and biopsy which confirmed that Tami had invasive cancer, invisible by 3D mammogram, because of her dense breast tissue.
Tami knows how lucky she is that she followed-up when she felt a lump in her breast. Even though her 3D mammogram was NORMAL - the mass, later diagnosed as invasive breast cancer, was clearly illuminated on the ultrasound.
-

Katherine was diagnosed with stage 3C breast cancer within months of her NORMAL mammogram.
A grueling treatment was prescribed as her cancer was nearly 2 inches and had metastasized to lymph nodes.
-

Lorilyn's stage 3C breast cancer with 11 metastasized lymph nodes detected by MRI within 4 months of a NORMAL mammogram and ultrasound.
A comment from Lorilyn's radiologist about her dense breasts 20 years ago led her to advocate for an MRI which might have saved her life.
